Generations of humans have lived in community, have lived connected to the land, connected to environment, connected to a shared identity and shared history. Their life was always about something bigger. Rituals, ceremonies, and belief systems that placed their existence in the context of the universe. Life was meaningful.
Today, all that's been dissolved. Science has dissolved the myth of religion and superstition. Everything has been reduced to mere materialism. Capitalist individualism has destroyed our sense of community, our sense of being has been commodified, our art and culture is just something to be marketed and sold to the highest bidder. Everything that once brought us together has evaporated. "All that was solid, melted into air", Now we stand alone as individuals to be judged by the marketplace. That final God left standing to rule over us.
Alone our lives are meaningless and short.
We are the children that have inherited nothing. We can only strive to be found productive enough so that the Economy rewards us with a McMansion and a 401K.
Here at E11, we try to boldly and defiantly create a new culture, a new way of being, not one that romanticizes the past. But one that forges a new community, a new way of being, a new type of living for something bigger than us, a new culture. We live for art and the creative process. We live for community and dance. We are valuable not because we can create value in the economy, but because we can feel interconnected and part of the web, and contribute to its culture.
New rituals and ceremonies bind us together and create meaning out of the chaos and empitness of solitary existence.
